Mastering your Brow Routine in Your 50’s and Beyond

Let's talk about something that might seem small but makes a huge difference in our overall look – eyebrows. As we gracefully journey through life, our brows may go through changes, becoming thinner or more sparse. But don’t stress! With a little LUVV and learning some simple brow tips, we can still have full confidence in our brows.

How to Understand Your Brow Shape

First things first, let's take a moment to appreciate our brow journey. We have put our brows THROUGH IT – from the trendy thin brows of the '90s to the bold brows of today. As we age, our brows may naturally thin out or become sparse due to various factors like hormonal changes and decreased hair growth.

Understanding your brow shape is the first step towards achieving your desired look.

Find the start of your brows! Take a pencil and hold it straight up along the fold of your nose! This will show you where your brow should begin!

Next, examine the natural arch of your brows. Run your fingers along your brow area to find your arch! This arch typically aligns with the outer edge of your iris when looking straight ahead.

If your brows lack a defined arch, you can create a subtle arch with shaping techniques.

Next, consider the length of your brows. Ideally, your brows should begin where your nostril aligns with the inner corner of your eye. To find where your brow should end, tilt a pencil diagonally from the outer corner of your nostril to the outer corner of your eye – this is where your brow should taper off.

Additionally, take note of the thickness of your brows. Are they naturally thick, thin, or somewhere in between? Understanding your brow's thickness will help you determine the best products and techniques to enhance their appearance.

Finally, observe any sparse areas or unevenness in your brows. These imperfections are completely normal and can be easily addressed with the right tools and brow products. By taking the time to understand your brow shape, you can tailor your routine to accentuate your natural features and boost your confidence effortlessly.

How to Prep Your Brows for Makeup

Now that you have an understanding of your brow shape, let's prep those brows. Start by gently brushing your brows upwards with a spoolie brush (which also helps reveal their natural shape). If you have unruly brows, a bit of clear brow gel can work wonders in keeping them in place throughout the day. Now, let’s get into the nitty gritty!

How to Shape Mature Brows

When it comes to shaping mature brows, subtlety is key. Avoid overly defined lines or harsh angles, as they can appear unnatural and age us unnecessarily. Instead, opt for soft, feathery strokes to fill in any sparse areas and enhance your natural arch. One of our favorites for filling in sparse brows is a brow stamp because it achieves symmetry while filling in those sparse areas! Remember, we're aiming for a polished yet effortless look that accentuates your features naturally.

Choosing the Right Brow Products

When selecting brow products, opt for ones that are specifically designed for mature brows. Look for pencils with a fine tip for precise application, allowing you to mimic the appearance of natural hairs with ease. If you prefer a softer look, tinted brow gels can add subtle color and volume while keeping your brows in place all day long.

Mastering your brow routine in your 50s and beyond is about embracing your natural beauty and enhancing what you already have. Understanding your unique brow shape sets the foundation for success. With gentle prep and subtle shaping techniques using the right products, you can achieve a polished yet effortless look. So, embrace your beautiful brows!
