How to Throw a Galentine’s Favorite Things Party: A Step-by-Step Guide

Hey there, gorgeous! 💖 If you’re anything like me, you live for time with your girls—those nights filled with laughter, hugs, and a little too much wine. So this Galentine’s Day, we at Madluvv are sharing one of our absolute favorite ways to celebrate the women who make life better: a Favorite Things Party!


This idea is straight from the heart (and group chat) of the Madluvv team—we’ve done it with our own girlfriends, and trust us, it’s a vibe. So grab your besties and let’s plan a party they’ll talk about for weeks!

What’s a Favorite Things Party?

Think of it as a gift exchange, but better! Each guest brings a few of their favorite things (all the same item) to share with the group. You leave with new goodies that your friends swear by—hello, ultimate girl gang recommendations! 💅

Let’s Get Planning!

1. Pick the Deets

Here’s how we’ve done it:

  • Guest List: Keep it cozy with 6–10 gals, or go big with a larger squad.
  • Date and Time: Galentine’s Day is Feb 13th, but any date close works.
  • Number of Gifts: 3 gifts per person usually works, but adjust as needed.
  • Budget: Set a price range (e.g., $10–$35 per item).

2. Send Invites

We love keeping it simple:

  • Group texts with lots of emojis.
  • A cute e-vite.
  • Or old-school handwritten cards if you’re feeling fancy.

Be sure to include:

  • What to Expect: Explain the Favorite Things concept.
  • Gift Rules: Price range + quantity of unwrapped gifts.
  • Food Instructions: Let them know if it’s potluck-style or if you’ve got it covered (more on that later).

3. Set the Mood

Here’s how we’ve made our spaces totally Instagram-worthy:

  • Gift Table: A cute display for all the goodies.
  • Decor: Pink balloons, fairy lights, fresh flowers, and lots of heart-shaped vibes.
  • Playlist: Upbeat, feel-good anthems. (Think Lizzo and Taylor Swift.)
  • Photo Op: Create a fun backdrop with props—instant memories!

4. Snacks & Sips 🍷🍓

Here’s what works for us:

  • Snacks: Charcuterie boards, chocolate-covered strawberries, and mini cupcakes.
  • Drinks: A signature cocktail (or mocktail) and a bottle of bubbly.
  • Potluck Twist: Ask everyone to bring a fave appetizer or dessert for even more variety.

How to Play

Gather your gals in a circle and explain the rules. Once everyone’s settled:

  • Hand out slips of paper—one for each gift brought. If everyone brought 3 gifts, they’ll each get 3 slips.
  • Have everyone write their name on their slips and toss them into a bowl.


Now for the fun part! Here are two ways we’ve played:

The Random Draw:
  1. When it’s your turn, stand up, show your gift, and share why you love it.
  2. Draw one name for each gift you brought—those whose names are drawn get the gift.
  3. Move clockwise until all gifts are handed out.

The Choosing Method:
  1. Everyone takes turns showing off their gifts first.
  2. Then, the host draws names from the bowl. When your name is called, you get to pick a gift from the table.
  3. Everyone gets one gift per turn until all the gifts are claimed!
